Wall Shelf

This piece came out great. It is a Wall Shelf 'curio' holder, with little shelves about 2 1/2 inches deep in each section. It has a wall hanger on the back, and you can put little knick-knacks in each section. The background colors add interest. You can see that this is simply a pine shelf. This one is done, but I could have finished with a light brown wax. The light color of the pine wood is quite light and, just a bit of light brown wax would reduce contrast nicely. I would just wipe on a small amount with a rag. It wouldn't even need any buffing. An old toothbrush will let me reach in the corners easily and get full coverage. So long as the brush is not overloaded, the InLace won't be touched. (Not that that would hurt anything.) In this case, I rubbed in a light coat of tung oil with the same technique, which gives the light wood a nice soft luster the picture doesn't really show.

The Clear resin is the base of each inlay. The top section is a mix of Gold Pearl and Brass Metallic Dyes and smooth as ice. The dark blue sections are various mixes of Blue and Green Solid-Opaque Dyes mixed with GG Green Metallic Dye - and you can see where I have added Blue and Teal Nuggets to add texture. The light green-blue sections are also icy slick. (With no sanding or polishing!) I used a complicated mix of Blue Pearl and Green Pearl Dyes, along with fractional amounts of Solid Blue and Green Dyes. (Barely even drops, but it makes a big difference in what the final result looks like.)
